Virginia Court Rules: Convicted Sex Offender’s Rights Not Violated By Warrantless GPS Tracking
8 Sep 2010The Virginia Court Of Appeals recently ruled on Tuesday that police who were using a GPS Tracking device on a convicted sex offender’s vehicle without a warrant did not violate the suspect’s rights – see the ruling here.
This latest ruling is in agreement with a Janauary 2010 federal appeals court in California ruling that the tracking of an Oregon man with a GPS tracking device was legal. In 2007, a federal appeals court in Illinois also ruled that warrantless gps tracking did not violate the suspect’s rights. We think that the US Supreme Court will tackle this issue soon.
In the Virginia case, the suspect was ultimately followed by the police (without a gps tracking device), and officer’s witnessed the suspect tackle and drag a woman, in an obvious atttempt to abduct her. The suspect was subsequently arrested and convicted of abduction with intent to defile and sentenced to life in prison.

Follow Specific Device – Auto Centers To Your Iphone Screen:
Version 1, if you wanted to follow a particular device you would continously have to move the map to follow it. We’ve added auto follow:

Now: Simply – touch the “Magifying Glass” (Fig 1) You’ll be taken to a screen where you can select the device you want to auto-follow (Fig 2). Click Back on the top button and you’ll be returned to the Google maps screen with the specific device you wanted to follow (fig 3). If you touch the screen, the app will stop following the device.
New In Version 2 – Get Addresses And Even A Street View (If Available):

The address field has been added to the application. If available next to the address field is a button that will open a street view of the devices location. An image of the devices “street view” will appear if available.

In fact, GPS tracking is becoming a mainstream strategy for law enforcement, vehicle management, safety and scientific discovery to name a few.
Most GPS tracking devices are small enough to fit in the palm of a user’s hand. They can typically be attached to vehicles and other objects via a strong magnet. In the case of people, GPS tracking devices are typically attached to clothing or worn on the ankle.
GPS tracking devices are widely used to track vehicles. Whether it’s managing a fleet of trucks or taxis or tracking the location of teenagers, commercial and private use of GPS tracking on the road is becoming mainstream. Likewise, these methods have also proven effective for locating stolen vehicles or pinpointing the location of a robbery that may involve a truck carrying valuables.
Android Spyware App – ” Tap Snake”
21 Aug 2010Earlier this week, one of the first GPS spyware apps was discovered by F-Secure. The free app, is a clone of the very old “Snake” game, but in reality is a GPS tracking program that transmits gps location data back to a server.
The app was developed by a company called Maxicom, and once installed the game will never be able to be stopped. The app will run in the background forever and restarts automatically when you boot the phone. Every fifteen minutes the phone secretly reports the GPS location of the phone to a server.
It appears that Google has already removed the app from the Android Market. What is even cooler though, is Google has the ability to exercise its kill-switch ability which would remotely delete the app from users phones.
