Tiliqua rugosa, more commonly known as the “Sleepy Lizard” because they love to sleep, have recently been deemed monogamous creatures.
The Sleepy Lizard is only found in Australia, and until now, not much has been known about the behavior of these animals.
Researchers from Flinders University in Adelaide and Murdoch University in Perth recently concluded a two-year study of Sleepy Lizards who reside in scrub between South Australia’s Morgan and Burra.
As part of the study, researchers tagged the lizards with GPS tracking devices and monitored their behavior 24 hours a day. What the researchers found was pretty interesting. Read the rest of this entry »

Driving for the first time is a very exciting time in the lives of teens; however, it can also be very dangerous. The leading causes of death in young adults and kids ages 15 through 20 are motor vehicle crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
But, the NHTSA also says that despite these statistics, only 25 percent of parents actually sit down and talk with their teens about what it takes to drive safely. Below are five rules that parents can instill in their teen before they begin driving.
Stay Away from Alcohol
When it comes to teenage driving, there is no legal limit for alcohol consumption. If your teen is under 21 years old, it is illegal for them to consume any amount of alcohol. However, the NHTSA states that even though this law is put in place, there are still deaths that involve teen drivers in motor vehicle crashes wholes blood-alcohol content is .01 or more. In Thousand Oaks, California, two mountain lion kittens, a male and a female, were located in the Santa Monica Mountains. The kittens were discovered in a very well-hidden den by biologists with the National Park Service and were tagged with GPS tracking devices. Both cubs were given handles so that they could easily be distinguished via the tracking devices they were outfitted with; the female’s handle is P-46 and the male’s handle is P-47.
Officials with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area believe that a female mountain lion, who has also been fitted with a GPS tracking device and whose handle is P-19, is the mother. The reason officials believe this is because of her activity during a three-week stretch, which was tracked by her GPS device. During that three-week period, mountain lion P-19 remained in a localized area, and since finding the cubs, officials believe that she is their mother and was staying in the den to care for her newborns. Sometimes it feels like operating a business involves an endless sea of reports. Unfortunately, all these reports without a method of reducing them down to the relevant and important information is worthless. That is something you’ll never need to worry about when it comes to fleet tracking telematics reports.
Regardless of the type of business you run or the industry in which your fleet operates, the right GPS fleet tracking reporting system can help you create reports that are not only relevant, but can also present the information in a manner that is easier for you to consume, understand, and put to use. For example, good telematics reporting systems allow you to receive reports in text and/or charts and graphs.
Why is this important?
An analytical safety manager may need detailed text-based reports about driver behavior, route times, or other information. On the other hand, someone in dispatch may need real-time graphs indicating long-distance drivers that includes pie charts of time spent sleeping vs. driving daily in order to keep all drivers safe and compliant. Have you ever wondered when a package you ordered is going to arrive? When a loved one is flying, have you ever wished that you could keep track of the location of the plane? Did you ever want to keep track of an elderly parent or your child?
Well, thanks to GPS tracking, you can!
GPS tracking is a form of technology that utilizes both location and time to provide data points, or points of location, via satellites that orbit the earth. Formally known as a Global Positioning System, this technology can be used to track virtually anything, – vehicles, packages, mobile phones, animals, people – and so much more!
GPS tracking is an invaluable technology, and as such, the US government has developed resources that educators can use to teach their students about these systems, including how they work and how they can be used. Read the rest of this entry »
