Small Business Using a GPS Tracker Device to Combat Trailer Theft
14 Jan 2016
One man began using a GPS tracking device when he finally got fed up with the theft inside his community as he watched his trailer get towed away in mere minutes by a red truck.
“It seems like every week somebody’s having a trailer stolen, a work trailer a work truck,” said Jed Bettelon, Owner of Superior Hard Surface Solutions, a business he’s owned for more than three years.
Theft is very common now more than ever and he knows his incident wasn’t the only one around. Bettelon says he’s feeling a little bitter and frustrated.
Bettlelon caught the whole act of theft on camera. A red pickup truck pulled up and thieves hopped out, attached his white trailer to the back of the truck and pulled away with it. It only took them a minute to do this and he was out $20,000.
He claims that it was a huge loss for him and very hard to swallow. Just like many others in the community, he’s just a small business owner trying to support his family.
A a GPS tracking device can be so helpful to Bettelon and others in the community to fight back. Although it is unfortunate that people now have to buy their own devices in order to track their assets if they are stolen, it is a real reality of how society has turned out these days.
Bettelon is all too familiar with this reality now and is ready to face it. He says that perhaps if he and others in the community begin fighting back just a little, they can catch the thieves and hopefully help to prevent future theft.
