Was talking with a customer today on the phone, he was in London – and he mentioned how he was using an Iphone app called Viber – which has saved his company, thousands of dollars in toll calls.
I downloaded the app – and gave it a shot. Installation is straight forward – you enter your phone number, and Viber sends you an SMS that you use to authenticate your phone. Easy enough.
What impressed me where the features of the phone and the integration the developers of this application used. The app does not need to be open to receive phone calls – pretty cool. So it uses VOIP data for the calls, not sure how much data is used for an average call – if you are on a connected wi-fi network – guess it really doesn’t matter.
If you’ve watched the Viber intro video – you’ll see that the features are pretty cool – and right now all calls are totally free.
This pilot fly’s his jet about 3 feet off the ground – nearly wiping out all of his buddies! This is one of the coolest videos we’ve ever seen…
Pretty Crazy Video.
There are three primary areas in which you will be able to easily identify fuel waste. The first two, can be identified in seconds, once your fleet tracking equipment is in place. The third area may require a little more work.
Vehicle Speeds: Gas mileage will decrease rapidly after 60 miles per hour. Assuming fuel prices are at $3.85 per gallon – for every 5 miles per hour driven over 60 – you are paying an extra $0.24 cents per gallon.
Solution: Monitor speeds of all vehicles with speed threshold alerts – get notified and see reporting that tells you when and where the speed thresholds were exceeded and for how long.
Engine Idling: Idling engines burn fuel, in fact for every hour an engine idles – you can expect to pay for one gallon of fuel. Read the rest of this entry »
Rhino’s in South Africa’s Mafikeng Game Reserve have been outfitted with gps tracking devices. In an effort to combat poaching, game wardens now have a hi-tech tool to combat rouge rhino killers. The gps tracking devices are programmed to alert personnel when the Rhino’s start running, or are laying down in the same position for an extended period of time.
Thousands of rhino’s are senselessly killed each year – their horn’s are sold across Asia for medicinal purposes. We applaud reserve officials, who are using technology to catch criminals.

Fleet Tracking Return On Investment
22 May 2011Once you’ve purchased your fleet tracking system, what variables should you be looking at to reduce business expenses? The two we recommend first looking at are:
1. Payroll Costs
2. Fuel Savings
Before you begin to quantify your ROI, you’ll need a baseline to measure your current average costs. For payroll costs, get a total of the number of drivers and their hourly rate of pay. Calculate your monthly spend on payroll, including overtime hours. For fuel expenses, total your monthly fuel spend.
Let’s focus in on payroll savings, which are at most businesses their largest recurring business expense.
You’ll want to look for areas where time is being wasted: Read the rest of this entry »
