UNC Campus Police Nabs Suspected Bike Thief

On the morning of Oct. 14, in order to stem a series of bike thefts on campus, University of Northern Colorado police arrested a man on suspicion of stealing a bicycle.
Many UNC students prefer to travel via bike around campus, and as bike riding has been gaining in popularity, opportunist thefts have also increased. For this reason, police have urged students to register their bikes with parking services, and to take a note of their bike’s serial number so if they come into contact with a suspect, it can be checked.
According to an affidavit for his arrest, at approximately 2:45 a.m. on the morning in question, Adrian Moreno, 52, stole a bike that was placed there by police. Read the rest of this entry »

The migratory hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus) can be found roosting in the redwood forests of California. Capable of flying for hundreds of miles, the bats are thought to make their way through western North America, finally reaching the north coast of California to hibernate. This is an unusual trait as most bat species either migrate, or hibernate – they generally don’t do both.
One of the largest species of bat found in North America, the hoary bat is around five inches long, and takes its name from its unusual frosted fur.
Using GPS tracking, U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station researchers have recently documented the first recorded evidence of its kind that shows that these bats go into a state of hibernation.
