GPS Tracking Watches – For Kids
18 May 2011From time to time, our sales team gets phone calls from consumers asking about GPS tracking watches for their child, or elderly parent.
Here is why we don’t sell this type of device, yet.
Reason #1: Battery life. Batteries in watch sized devices are not designed to transmit gps/gsm data on a continuos basis. The small battery size, coupled with current battery technology, requires frequent re-charges. Sometimes, as often as every eight hours. Not very practical.
Reason #2: Quality. The majority of gps tracking watches we have seen, come from China. Besides questionable quality control issues, these devices do not have FCC certification, nor do they have PTCRB certification. PTCRB certification, is a requirement to use such a device on a carrier’s network, like ATT, T-Mobile, etc. In layman’s terms, this means, its not legitimate.
Sometime, in the future, we might find a product that meets our requirements.
