No, there is not a new technology out there on the market.  GPS Tracking & GPRS, or General Packet Radio Services has been around for quite some time.  Established in the early 2000’s, GPRS is an extension of the Global System for Mobile Communications. This means that it uses the same system as cellular phones.  GPRS has been called the 2.5 G system.  This is because it was developed after the 2G cellular networks and before the 3G systems that are currently showing up on the market today.  GPRS is still widely used across the globe today.

Satellite technology can be used for a variety of things from cellular phones to television, radio and even GPS systems.  In fact, it seems to be a more reliable type of communication network because with the right satellite network you can get coverage from the far reaches of the planet.  With so much satellite technology out there today, it can be quite difficult to determine who exactly the providers are.  Hopefully by taking the time to read this, you will have a better understanding of who the satellite providers really are.

If you are running yourself ragged by trying to keep track of business vehicles, then you need to stop!  Case in point:  You have three trucks out on the road making deliveries.  The first truck gets to its destination without difficulty.  The second truck breaks down and you have no clue where the third truck is at this point.  You try to contact your drivers.  You contact the first driver via cell phone and learn that your delivery is being made.  The second driver contacts you and tells you that the truck is broken down.  You can’t reach the third driver.  You are completely frustrated and you are only monitoring three trucks.  Think about what would happen if you had fleets of trucks to manage. 
What would you do then?

With so much technology today using satellite communications the layperson has a tremendous task of understanding how each system works. Cell phones, television and GPS tracking systems can all work using a satellite system, but understanding the difference between Low Earth Orbit Satellite (LEO’s) and Geostationary Satellites (GEO’s) can help one determine which of the newest systems out there will benefit their needs.
