How would you like to charge your mobile devices, such as your GPS tracker, simply by taking an after-dinner stroll or walk with Fido? Well, soon you may be able to.

That’s because British researchers have figured out a way to power small electronic gadgets simply by extracting energy from a person’s knees through the use of a high-tech knee strap. The researchers from a trio of UK Universities have built an innovative device that is capable of converting body movement into electricity, which is able to power small electronic devices.

Referred to as the “pizzicato knee-joint energy harvester”, the user wears the circular strap around her knees. The strap’s outer ring is fitted with four protruding arms and over 70 plectra, which pluck the arms when the knee is bent. A mother who was a victim of a bully herself as a child invented a GPS tracker smartphone app designed to stop bullies in their tracks and keep children safe from the antics of bullies.

The app, called Feel Secure, provides parents with peace of mind not only in terms of protecting their child from bullies, but sex predators and other physical threats to their safety and wellbeing.

Outfitted with a GPS tracker, the app can pinpoint a child’s location in a matter of seconds. It also has an alarm feature; the child needs to simply press one button, and the app activates a panic mode.  If a child is being bullied, threatened by a stranger, or being lured into a car, the panic mode dispels a high-pitched alarm, which also automatically calls family or friends. Overtaken by jewelry, insurance claims for electronics dropped from the top category in 2011, according to the annual Contents Claims Index released by Enservio, who is a provider of valuation and replacement software and services and contents inventory creation.
