GPS Tracker Reveals Dog Walked Double His Owner
20 Dec 2016An experiment shows that when taking your dog for a walk, they travel twice as far as you do. At least this is what Rod Kirkpatrick found while walking his spaniel ‘Chester’. Chester likes to go explore on their walks and covers more miles than Rod.
It often pleases dog owners to take their canine out for a walk and allow them to lead the way on a good run. However, many dog owners don’t realize just how far their canines actually go and how many more miles they cover than them.
Kirkpatrick was about to find out. He fitted Chester with a GPS tracking device before they set off for a walk on The Roaches rocky outcrops in The Peak District.
His daughter, Freya who is 8 years old, had her smartphone with her which had a walk mapping app downloaded on it and could track their miles. They also attached a small video camera to Chester’s collar so they could actually see where he went exploring. Read the rest of this entry »

Commercial Fleet Tire Safety Tips
19 Dec 2016
Concerns about the safety of commercial tires have resulted in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issuing notifications to the transport industry to increase awareness of tire safety issues.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) Office of Defects Investigations (ODI), increased tire failures on commercial trucks are as a result of issues such as increased uptime/equipment utilization, increased front axle loads, and going above tire speed ratings.

Commercial vehicle operators, and drivers are urged to take heed of the acronym “TIRES”, that stands for Tire inspection, Inflation pressure, Extreme loading, and Speed: Read the rest of this entry »

In August 2016, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) launched the “Our Roads, Our Responsibility” initiative. The idea behind it is to raise public awareness about how drivers can safely share road space with commercial vehicles such as buses and semi-trucks.
The campaign looks to inform drivers of non-commercial vehicles about the specific dangers of driving unsafely while near buses and trucks. For example, these large vehicles need twice as much stop distance as a passenger car. With this in mind, the campaign highlights the responsibility that all road users must share the road safely. GPS Tracking Being Used to Track Wild Horses
13 Dec 2016The beautiful brown Przewalski’s horse is an endangered subspecies that once lived in Mongolia and China. The horse, that’s also known as the Asian wild horse, has never been domesticated by man, and is a distant cousin of the domestic horse. Interestingly, the Przewalski has two chromosomes more than the domestic horse.
Throughout the ‘60s, competition with livestock, habitat loss, and over hunting made the Przewalski extinct in the wild, and after years of being raised in captivity, the horses were then reintroduced into the wild in areas of Mongolia. Today, there are around 500 of these wild horses living on a permanent or semi-permanent basis in Mongolia. Read the rest of this entry »
