The week of May 28 through June 3, 2017, is designated as “National Tire Safety Week“. It’s put in place to educate motorists on how important tire maintenance is for safety. National Tire Safety Week is a Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) initiative striving to bring the tire industry together to help motorists learn easy steps essential for maintaining their tires.

RMA has teamed up with the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) to promote tire care during this week.

Tire manufacturers put in a lot of effort to make tires for safety and long-lasting performance. This commitment goes beyond the factory. Kelvin Balthrop began his day on a Wednesday like any other day. The Henrico County man said he was going about his normal routine went out and started up his car to warm it for around 10 minutes. However, when he stepped out of his home he noticed there was someone in his car backing out of his driveway, he told Nakell Williams, 8News Reporter.

His Dodge Neon was stolen right from under his nose and the thief left a path of destruction behind him.

Thanks to GPS technology that he had attached to his car, Balthrop was able to track and locate his car near Creighton Road and North 38th. The thieves never knew it was attached to the Neon when they took it.

Balthrop’s neighbor said she was having a cigarette outside and she saw a 4-door, white sedan car sitting in front of his Neon. She claimed the thieves were acting like they were trying to fix the car or give it a jump. Read the rest of this entry »
