Assessing Senior Driving through GPS Tracking
20 Sep 2012Some things get better with age. A couple of things that come to mind are fine wine and aged cheese. Even young motorists become better drivers as they get more driving experience under their belts.
Unfortunately, senior drivers steadily get more dangerous to themselves and others on the road as they age. Seniors who reach 65 and older often begin losing physical capabilities that are required to drive effectively and reflexes begin dwindling. According to a 1997 study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 14% of traffic fatalities during that year were caused by senior drivers. Protecting Your Classic Car From Theft
19 Sep 2012Last night we attended a Car Collection Security Seminar at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The museum is amazing. There are so many different cars on display. Ranging from early model classics to late model supercars. If you are a car person, and in Los Angeles we recommend you check the museum out.
The Hagerty’s Classic Car Insurance company sponsored the event, which brought together a panel of Law enforcement professionals (TRAP) whose mission is to recover stolen vehicles. A representative from the National Insurance Crime Bureau was also on hand.
The NICB is sort of a clearing house for stolen vehicles. They retain data on vehicles that have been stolen forever. We learned in California that vehicles reported stolen, will remain active to law enforcement personnel for about four years. This means, if you’ve ever had a vehicle stolen and a law enforcement agency checked its license plates 6 years later the vehicle won’t immediately be identified as stolen. This is where the NICB comes into play, as records of all stolen vehicles are kept on permanent file indefinitely. Read the rest of this entry »

Unless you’re a hoarder, most of us are pretty glad to see the waste management truck visit our house every week to drive away with our refuse, garbage, or trash — whichever term you prefer. But how many of us know just how much planning and monitoring it takes to ensure all those trash trucks make their specified trash pickup routes? Well, it’s a pretty big deal, that has become easier, thanks to modern GPS fleet tracking technology.
The benefits of using GPS tracking technology for fleet vehicle is proving to be the next big thing in waste management. A fleet of garbage-eating vehicles can guzzle up a lot of fuel in no time at all — and with the prices of gasoline these days, inefficient routes or poor driving behavior can add on hefty expenses. GPS tracking devices have been used worldwide in wildlife research. We report about it quite often here at the LiveViewGPS blog, and today’s post continues in that endeavor.
13 turtles living on Australia’s Murray River will be wearing more than their hard turtle shell. They’ll be sporting “GPS tracking backpacks”.
On Murray River, which is east of Echuca, Australia, researchers are making it their mission to learn more about where turtles go and what they do when they leave the water for dry land. In a project by the Yorta Yorta people in Australia, the pending drought is a great worry. Using a global positioning system (GPS) transmitter attached to the shell of freshwater turtles, scientists are able to review the data and better research turtle whereabouts on land. Is Your Car on NICB’s Most Stolen Car List?
11 Sep 2012
Some of the most popular cars driven today tend to be targets of skilled car thieves. If you’re a Honda or Toyota owner — particularly certain 1990’s models — the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NCIB) has some bad news for you: along with several other types of cars, yours is at higher risk of getting stolen.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) is an insurance company-supported non-profit organization who released a list of the 10 most stolen cars in 2011, many of which are Hondas and Toyotas. These types of vehicles made tops on the Hot Wheels – 10 most-stolen vehicles in the United States in 2011 list due in part to the ease of breaking into them, as well as the fact that 1990s models lack anti-theft features. Older car models don’t often contain the high-tech anti-theft devices or GPS tracking devices that exist in newer model vehicles. Read the rest of this entry »
