Vehicles with a model year of 2025 and later will be more fuel efficient — thanks to a new fuel efficiency standards regulation finalized late this summer.

This comes as both good and bad news for car owners, as cars purchased with a 2025 model year will have nearly twice the average gas mileage of cars and trucks — when the new fuel efficiency standards are combined with existing ones. And with gas prices being over $4 a gallon in some cities, improved fuel efficiency is definitely a good thing.

On the bad side though, the price per vehicle will likely increase, with some expecting certain vehicle prices to increase by nearly $3K. Read the rest of this entry »

Halloween has been around for thousands of years, where it was first a part of Celtic rituals involving ghosts, witches, and vampires. Over the years, the traditions of Halloween have changed as society has. Today, the most common ways to celebrate Halloween is with carved pumpkins, dressing up into costumes, and, of course, trick-or-treating.

Most kids won’t dispute the opinion that Halloween is one of the best holidays of the year. It’s a time for dressing up as a favorite character, walking around the neighborhood with friends, and filling up buckets or pillowcases with free candy — and lots of it. What could be better than that?

The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy are gearing up to advance Global Positioning System (GPS) technology currently used for civilian and the military forces for both GPS navigation and GPS tracking and monitoring purposes. In an effort to improve existing GPS technology, the government has approved contracts to five different companies in the last few weeks.

Civilians and military have been using GPS technology for years now for a myriad of uses. For instance, GPS tracking is used to monitor a person’s whereabouts with comprehensive data in real-time, whether its to investigate a suspected cheating spouse or monitor a parolee whereabouts through a GPS ankle bracelet. For the military, GPS is used for a variety of purposes, including targeting military weapon systems.

The latest “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report” has been released, naming the best and worth cities for driving.

The 2012 report marks the 8th annual report for the best and worst cities to drive in. Allstate, who has 10% of  the nation’s auto insurance policies, ranked nearly 200 cities across the country in terms of their car collision frequency.

According to Allstate, the average US resident is an auto accident about once every 10 years. As expected, busy metropolitan areas tend to have the most accidents, while smaller cities scored much better on the collision report. Read the rest of this entry »
