The winter season means snow in many areas throughout the country. In order to make it safer for people to get to work, school, and drive through town, snow plows are used to clear pathways when the snow starts falling.

In the past, snow removal wasn’t as efficient as it is today because of the unknowns of mother nature and lack of advanced technology. But now GPS tracking technology is enabling many states, including New Jersey, Illinois, and New York, to have safer roads more quickly and more effectively after mother nature dumps a blanket of her white stuff on the nation’s highways and byways.

With GPS tracking and monitoring for snow plow removal, real-time data is available to snow plow drivers and the managers who manage them. This technology lets them see current location and snow removal routes in real time, as well as the current temperature and where to plow next in their route. Read the rest of this entry »

Local police department helps save a man thanks to a GPS tracking bracelet.

Global positioning systems (GPS) have long since been helping in more ways than navigation and direction assistance for pedestrians and drivers. Many businesses, city authorities, and even healthcare centers are utilizing real-time GPS tracking data for improving the health and vitality of their employees and their patients. One good example of this is with the GPS tracking bracelets being used by the Sarasota Police Department.

The bracelets are part of a program called Project Lifesaver, where at-risk mentally or physically disabled individuals wear bracelets or ankle bracelets with built-in GPS trackers in them. Most recently, they helped the police department find a mentally disabled man who had wandered away from his home. James Mondello, 50, has a mental disability due to a previous head injury. He wandered off around 9pm at night from his home in the Banyan area. Read the rest of this entry »

GPS technology is about so much more than getting directions in a pinch and saving money on gas mileage, though both offer great benefits. In some instances, it’s fast access to life-saving help. These instances would be when used by someone who presses their GPS panic button on their GPS tracking device in emergency situations.

Benefits of GPS Tracking Panic Buttons

Most people think of panic buttons as something to push in order to make a loud noise and attract attention. In the past, that’s what they’ve been used for, with some degree of success. GPS tracking panic buttons, though, alert designated individuals and/or authorities as to your location and, if possible, the exact type of emergency situation you’re facing.

GPS tracking panic buttons come in many shapes and sizes. Some panic buttons are designed for children or the elderly. This allows them to push the button in an emergency for access to help without alerting those around them that the panic button has been pressed. Read the rest of this entry »

Doctors in Melbourne utilize new GPS technology for locating and treating lung cancer.

According to the National Institutes of Health, lung cancer is one of the most deadly types of cancers, killing more Americans from the disease than colon cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. Much of this is due to the significant damage surgery causes when attempting to remove the cancer sites in the lungs.

In Australia, doctors have discovered a new way of finding and removing small lesions in the lung; lesions that were previously untreatable. They are the first to use GPS-guided devices as a way of treating lung cancer for their patient, giving them a chance at a long and cancer-free life. Read the rest of this entry »

Stolen truck and man’s best friend are found thanks to a GPS tracking device worn by the dog.

Torrie Munroe was simply trying to pick up a few items at her local Walmart in Ancaster, Ontario when her truck was stolen, with her dog still inside. Munroe drove to Walmart and was not inside for more than 15 minutes. It was normal for her to bring her 10-year-old Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever dog, Everest, with her on short errands around town.Everest enjoys these rides, and the events are problem free. But this time, something went wrong. When she exited the store, Munroe was unable to find her truck. She looked everywhere in the parking lot for her 2006 Escalade, but it was nowhere to be found.

Munroe’s first call was to local police in Hamilton, in order to file a missing report. As she was on the phone with law enforcement to report the theft, she remembered the dog had a GPS tracker on his collar. Read the rest of this entry »
