Unit's great, software needs work... |
| I purchased this device after I began to suspect my spouse was "stepping out " on me, and have not been disappointed. The unit itself works very well, however I would recommend keeping it fully charged whenever possible, and making sure you have the satellite fix(dual blinking lights) BEFORE placing it in a vehicle. I would also recommend NOT placing it anywhere where metal may interfere with the unit (ie: trunk...I found even the glove box was occasionally spotty)and found that it worked well either in a small storage pocket under the rear passenger side window, or better yet, under the bumper cover. This was very inconspicuous and ideal for access. To fasten it here I epoxied a patch of heavy duty velcro in place and have had no issues keeping it fastened. I would also recommend either the waterproof case, or simply wrapping it in cellophane for for exterior use.
The software(yes, I have the new version) works well...but it certainly takes some "tweaking". I installed & configured the software & hardware correctly, but my PC(running XP Pro) couldn't see the hardware after taking the unit for a test-run. I un-installed & installed it again, and it worked. I then took it for another test run, and once again it couldn't see the hardware. I then went through the above AGAIN, and it does seem to be working now with few issues.
After completing several reports since then, I must say that the unit & software run very detailed reports, and the actual physical accuracy of the GPS data is as advertised.
All things considered, I think that for under $200 I would recommend the Itrail to anyone just looking for some peace of mind like me. |
