The agency gathers data from law enforcement agencies across the nation who have submitted the information to the National Crime Information Center.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Data from 2017 revealed that the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicb.org\/news\/news-releases\/2017-hot-wheels-report\">most stolen vehicle in the nation<\/a><\/u> was the 1998 Honda Civic. Over the course of the year, this type of car was reported stolen 6,707 times. Honda has recognized how theft is a serious problem with some of their earlier models, so they have been adamant about introducing anti-theft technologies into their newer vehicles. Only 388 2017 Honda Civics were stolen, so the NICB sees this progress as proof of the success of the company\u2019s anti-theft measures.<\/p>\n<p>The 1997 Honda Accord was stolen 6,301 times, and the 2006 Ford Pickup was stolen 3,151 times. The fourth type of vehicle stolen was significantly lower. The 2004 Chevrolet Pickup was stolen 1,970 times. Shockingly, the fifth most stolen vehicle comes from the year 2017. The Toyota Camry for 2017 was stolen 1,100 times. The last five cars to make the list include the 2016 Nissan Altima, 2016 Toyota Corolla, 2001 Dodge Pickup, 2017 GMC Pickup and the 2008 Chevrolet Impala.<\/p>\n<p>The NICB also released a report of the top ten 2017 model year vehicles that were stolen throughout the calendar year. The 2017 model Nissan Altima topped the list with a whopping 1,153 total thefts.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 Toyota Camry was not far behind with 1,100 auto thefts. Other notable mentions for the most stolen 2017 model vehicles include the GMC Pickup, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Fusion, Ford Pickup, Ram Pickup, Toyota Corolla, GMC Savana and Hyundai Sonata.<\/p>\n<p>The NICB suggests that car owners utilize at least four layers of protection against this common problem. The agency suggests always:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Applying common sense by locking your vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>Utilizing a warning device.<\/li>\n<li>Considering an immobilizing device.<\/li>\n<li>Purchasing a <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveviewgps.com\/all+gps+tracking+products.html\">GPS tracking device<\/a><\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>when you own a vehicle that is more likely to be targeted.<\/p>\n<p>Together, these layers of protection will both prevent and deter theft on your personal vehicle.
