The National Safety Council is an organization that focuses on preventing deaths on roads, in homes, workplaces, and communities through a combination of leadership efforts, education, research, and advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>Each week during the month of June the organization focuses on different aspects of safety for its efforts. The weeks and their focus safety issues are listed below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Week One: Emergency preparedness.<\/li>\n<li>Week Two: Wellness<\/li>\n<li>Week Three: Falls<\/li>\n<li><strong>Week Four: Driving Safety<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019ve made our way to the fourth week of the month, it\u2019s time to explore the things you can do improve your safety (and the safety of your family and others) when on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/membership\/members-resources\/injury-facts\">American is injured, via preventable accidents, every three minutes<\/a>? These accidents include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Auto accidents<\/li>\n<li>Falls<\/li>\n<li>Drownings<\/li>\n<li>Drug overdoses or poisonings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As week four in the month of June unfolds, all eyes turn to American roadways as we seek out new ways to improve safety. Some of the top priorities for boosting safety on the roads include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>End distracted driving.<\/strong> For many, this begins and ends with cell phone usage behind the wheel. Stop using mobile phones and opt for other tools instead.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stay current with vehicle recalls. <\/strong>It\u2019s a bigger problem than you realize with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reporting more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/road-safety\/safety-topics\/vehicle-recalls\">53 million vehicles on the road with active and unresolved safety recall issues<\/a>. These recalls are about improving overall safety. Make sure your vehicle has all the repairs the manufacturer recommends to reduce unnecessary accidents. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.checktoprotect.org\/#\/\">Check to Protect<\/a> allows you to enter your VIN (vehicle identification number) online and check for any recalls on your vehicle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid driving impaired<\/strong>.
