In an effort to curb car theft, the National Insurance Crime Bureau has created an annual report that identifies the top 10 vehicles that are stolen the most in the United States. Called \u2018Hot Wheels,\u2019 this report showcases data that is submitted by law enforcement officials to the National<\/p>\n

Crime Information Center (NCIC) regarding the makes, models, and model years that are stolen the most.<\/p>\n

The 2016 Hot Wheels Report illustrates the vehicles that are most stolen throughout the country in 2015.<\/p>\n

The following vehicles were the most stolen in the United States in 2015 (in descending order):<\/p>\n

  1. 52,244 – 1996 Honda Accords<\/li>\n
  2. 49,430 – 1998 Honda Civics<\/li>\n
  3. 29,396 – 2006 full size Ford Pickups<\/li>\n
  4. 27,771 -2004 full size Chevrolet Pickups<\/li>\n
  5. 15,466 – 2014 Toyota Camrys<\/li>\n
  6. 2001 – full size Dodge Pickups<\/li>\n
  7. 10,547 – 2014 Toyota Corollas<\/li>\n
  8. 10,374 – 2015 Nissan Altimas<\/li>\n
  9. 9,798 – 2002 Dodge Caravans<\/li>\n
  10. 9,225 – 2008 Chevrolet Impalas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The most stolen vehicles of the 2015 model year vehicles that were stolen during 2015 include (in descending order):<\/p>\n

    1. 1,104 – Nissan Altimas<\/li>\n
    2. 1,069 – Chrysler 200s<\/li>\n
    3. 923 – Toyota Camrys<\/li>\n
    4. 776 -Toyota Corollas<\/li>\n
    5. 670 – GMC Sierras<\/li>\n
    6. 666 – Dodge Chargers<\/li>\n
    7. 632 – Hyundai Sonatas<\/li>\n
    8. 594 – Chevrolet Malibus<\/li>\n
    9. 586 – Chevrolet Cruzes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The NICB President and CEO, Joe Wehrle, said that the 2016 Hot Wheels Report illustrates that older vehicles are still the most commonly stolen; however, the report does indicate that there is also a high number of new cars, or later model years, that have been outfitted with anti-theft protection clearly shows that this anti-theft technology doesn\u2019t always work.<\/p>\n

      How can motorists protect their vehicles from being stolen?<\/p>\n

      The NICB suggest that drivers institute the following four \u2018Layers of Protection\u2019:<\/p>\n
