Stolen truck and man\u2019s best friend are found thanks to a GPS tracking device<\/a> worn by the dog.<\/p>\n

Torrie Munroe was simply trying to pick up a few items at her local Walmart in Ancaster, Ontario when her truck was stolen, with her dog still inside. Munroe drove to Walmart and was not inside for more than 15 minutes. It was normal for her to bring her 10-year-old Great Pyrenees\/Golden Retriever dog, Everest, with her on short errands around town.Everest enjoys these rides, and the events are problem free. But this time, something went wrong. When she exited the store, Munroe was unable to find her truck. She looked everywhere in the parking lot for her 2006 Escalade, but it was nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n

Munroe\u2019s first call was to local police in Hamilton, in order to file a missing report. As she was on the phone with law enforcement to report the theft, she remembered the dog had a GPS tracker on his collar.<\/p>\n

After informing police of the tracker, she then called her husband Bob, who was able to pull up the tracking app on his mobile phone. Bob tracked the dog to a location in Caledonia, and found that the dog and truck were on the move, headed toward Six Nations Reserve.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Hamilton Police were unable to help her any further, according to dispatch, because that area where the truck and dog were traveling was out of their jurisdiction. Torrie Munroe was then transferred to the Ontario Provincial Police department, where she gave her report again, letting them know about the GPS tracker and her stolen truck. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) informed her that because the truck was headed toward the Six Nations Reserve, they also did not have the jurisdiction to make an arrest.<\/p>\n

By this point, Munroe was panicking, only concerned about getting her dog back. However, they found a stroke of luck when the dispatcher at the OPP reported they had spotted her Escalade heading toward the Reserve, and had suspects in view. Assuming she would have her dog back soon, Munroe called her son Jordan, who lives in Hamilton where he attends university. He met the OPP where they spotted the vehicle and was expecting to pick up Everest.<\/p>\n

When Jordan arrived at the location specified, the OPP was not found. He called in to dispatch again, where an operator told him they could not enter the reserve because it was too dangerous, and that someone from the Six Nations Reserve police force would contact Munroe.<\/p>\n

After finally getting a hold of the reserve and being told they couldn\u2019t enter the GPS location because of the danger, Jordan decided to go in anyway. At his insistence, the officers agreed to meet him at a local school nearby where the truck was being spotted. They found the truck, with Everest still inside. He was shaken and refused to move, so Jordan reached in and carried him out.<\/p>\n

The Munroe\u2019s feel confident that without the GPS tracker, their dog Everest would not have been found in time, as the truck was very battered and left deserted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
