From traffic tickets to higher maintenance and crash related expenses, speeding drivers present major liability and cost issues for the businesses they represent. Looking at the facts in black and white says it all.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Speeding Statistics<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excessive speed accounted for <a href=\"http:\/\/www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov\/Pubs\/811397.pdf\">31 percent of all fatal crashes in the U.S. in 2009, with a total of 10,591 deaths<\/a>, according to a 2009 National Highways Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report.<\/li>\n<li>Speed-related crashes have an <a href=\"http:\/\/www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov\/Pubs\/811166.PDF\">economic toll of approximately $40.4 billion every year <\/a>per this 2008 NHTSA report.<\/li>\n<li>The National Safety Council reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsc.org\/safety_road\/DriverSafety\/Pages\/Speeding.aspx\">speed was a factor in 27 percent of all fatal crashes in construction and maintenance zones <\/a>during 2005.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnrlawyers.com%2Fnews%2Fdangers-of-speeding-while-driving%2F&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNHGV_s3zsn-KSIZU68p3y6CiPAF8g\">Every minute saved by speeding in the U.S. costs over $76,000<\/a>, reports Caddell Nelson &amp; Reibach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fuel Consumption Statistics<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Driving 10 mph above the speed limit on roads where the speed limit is above 55 mph, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.speedgauge.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/speedgauge-whitepaper-v1.pdf\">increases fuel consumption by $0.018 &#8211; $0.067 per mile<\/a>, according to an independent, analytical evaluation of publicly available data from U.S. Federal Government safety studies, the American Trucking Association, truck driver surveys, truck equipment manufacturers, operational field data collected from truck fleets, and publicly available private research using SpeedGauge between 2006 and 2008. This assumes fuel costs of $2.00 per gallon and covers data gathered over the past 30 years. <i>At today&#8217;s fuel costs the increased costs of speeding are even greater.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>A 2009 study estimated that SpeedGauge can decrease the operating costs of a large truck by up to 6.8 cents\u00a0 for each interstate mile traveled and 4.4 cents per mile traveled on other roads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How SpeedGauge Helps Fleet Tracking Managers<\/b><\/p>\n<p>SpeedGauge helps fleet tracking managers identify drivers with risky patterns or aggressive tendencies.
