Laundromat Thieves Unable to Clean Up, Thanks to GPS Tracking
19 May 2016After doing thousands of dollars in damage to a gas station, thieves in Spokane, Washington were eventually caught when they later attempted to rob a laundromat.
The thieves, who robbed, damaged, and stole an ATM machine from the Conoco gas station in Spokane, Washington, got away with the crime, until they later committed another burglary a month later. Thanks to a GPS tracker in a van that they stole, the police were able to track the thieves down.
According to court documents, Shawn Wallwork and Jeremiah Baker, stole a van and drove it into the front of the establishment, and took an ATM machine from it. The ATM machine was valued at $3,500 and there was approximately $2,000 in cash inside the machine.
The clerk at the gas station said that the robbers used a chain to pull the ATM machine out of the floor. They got away with the burglary, until they committed another burglary on April 16, at a Laundromat on Mission.
Court documents state that the men drove past the Laundromat and decided that it would be a good way to “earn some quick money.” They broke the laundromat’s glass door with a slingshot and proceeded to steal various electronics, a computer, a safe, a coin machine, and a white van from the business.
The stolen van, which was outfitted with a GPS tracking device, was the police department’s key to locating the robbers. When the owner of the Laundromat noticed that the stolen van was on the move, he immediately called the police, and officers were able to track down the suspects.
When the two men were arrested for robbing the Laundromat, they confessed to stealing the ATM at the Conoco gas station. Additionally, Baker, one of the suspects, confessed to two other residential burglaries.
The other suspect, Shawn Wallwork, is no stranger to the police His criminal record shows that he has had several past charges, all related to theft. Currently, Baker is in jail and Wallwork has been released.
If it were not for the GPS tracking device in the stolen van, who knows how many other robberies the two criminals would attempt, and potentially get away with.
