Hanging Basket Thief Caught with a GPS Tracking Device

The police department in Normandy Park in Washington State is using GPS tracking technology to catch the thief who has been taking hanging baskets from a local business.A variety of businesses across the United States have been incorporating advanced tracking technology for tracking thieves who target their businesses. One such business is using it after hanging baskets in front of their store have been stolen multiple times.The business is using global positioning systems (GPS) to track baskets so that the next time they are stolen, they can help track down the thief. The GPS tracking device was borrowed from the Issaquah Police Department, which also works closely with the Coalition of Small Police Agencies.While the thought of hanging baskets being stolen doesn’t sound like much, the small business has already lost thousands of dollars due to the string of thefts. They simply want to track the thief and put an end to the thefts.The business is working closely with the local Normandy Park Police Department as they track the hanging baskets, so that when the thief takes the basket, the police department will be notified. After placing a GPS tracker on one of their hanging baskets, Police Chief Chris Gaddis kept an eye on the tracker and waited for it to alert them that the basket was moved.After waiting several days for a theft to occur, the police got the alert at around 9:00pm on a Monday evening. The GPS unit went off once the basket was moved, which alerted the police. Officers began tracking it immediately, following it down south on 1st Avenue South towards Des Moines. They kept monitoring it until it stopped, which was at a house in Des Moines. It was here that Sgt. Laswell arrived and watched as a white male removed several hanging baskets from his vehicle to the residence.The suspect was interviewed on the spot, arrested and the hanging baskets were recovered and returned to the local business. The suspect in question was arrested and booked into the SCORE Jail for Theft and Criminal Trespass. The owner of the business graciously thanked the police department, CSO Bond and office Lievero for helping to track down the thief and put a stop to the thefts of their hanging baskets.If it wasn’t for the GPS tracking technology, these thefts likely would have kept occurring.
